It is a proven fact that any power exercise will have a tremendous impact in a persons’ golf swing and golf game in general. In fact any strength exercise will have an impact on the golf game.

However golf specific power exercises will tend to have an even larger impact in your golf swing. To start with they will tend to be less strenuous and more concentrated on the specific muscles that you use during the golf game.

What is more many golf specific power exercises specifically targeted at making a major improvement in your golf swing can be performed in the comfort of the home, office or even while travelling, maybe in some hotel room somewhere.

The power exercise in the golf swing that can also tremendously improve on the enjoyment of the game by eliminating pain even as your body is strengthened to play a better game.

For example the following powerful, but simple exercise has helped many golfers gain more endurance to play golf the whole day with endurance and get rid of the usual nagging lower back problems that are extremely common on the course.

This power exercise in the golf swing also makes such a tremendous difference in your strength that you have to try it to believe and experience the impact yourself.

This power exercise in the golf swing is done by lying flat on the ground on your stomach with your hands at your sides. You then raise your chest and upper body as well as arms and legs as high as you can.

You do this so that your stomach supports the weight of your entire body. Hold the position and go for a count of 10. Doing this simple exercise for 2 sets daily will completely eliminate your low back pain for good. That is if it has been caused by golf.

There are a number of other power exercises in the golf swing that can make a tremendous impact on any golf game.

Anyone who tells you, that he or she would not like to hit the golf ball further is either a liar, or Tiger Woods.

Drive for show and putt for dough maybe sound advice, but if you ask the average weekend golfer whether they would like to putt like Brad Faxon, or regularly belt the ball like Tiger, most would opt for Tiger’s power off the tee.

It is this fascination with power in golf that prompt’s me to write this article, and provide a golf tip.

A couple of facts first, that were discovered two or three years ago, by the teaching profession in the USA. These were, that by using the golf swing, test robotic arm generating a clubhead speed of 100 mph, the golf ball, on average, would go around 265 yards.

However, if the clubface is opened by 2 degrees only, then the distance reached was only 225 yards, with the same clubhead speed. Again by opening up the face to 4 degrees, the distance covered was only 185 yards.

This shows that distance is not just about power, and clubhead speed, but also hitting the ball squarely with a nice golf swing. This may sound like common sense, however many golfers are trying to hit the ball with the incorrect golf swing.

So, what is the secret of achieving maximum power? My golf tip is this:-

Speed, can be increased, by setting the wrists into a cocked position early, and on the downswing keeping the wrists cocked for as late as possible, and then swishing through the ball. This is similar to flicking your wrists, when using a badminton, squash, or tennis racket.

Power, comes from having as full and flexible a body turn as possible, plus creating a wide arc. The powerful muscles of the legs will also help.

To generate maximum power, it is essential that the start of the downswing be calm and unhurried. This enables the golfer to build up speed, so that the golf club is still accelerating when it reaches the ball. Finally, ensure that the arms are fully extended through to a high finish.

A key point to note is that the hands control the position of the clubface, keeping it square at impact.

Golfers, who are inclined to hit at the ball with their hands rather than a nice even tempo golf swing through the ball, find that they lose a lot of power, and hence distance.

Slow, smooth tempo wins every time.

Wouldn’t you love to add 10 yards to every iron? Instead of a 150 6 iron, you’re hitting a consistent 7 iron the same distance.

This alone will greatly improve your “greens in regulation” and getting more shots closer to the pin. The end result is a much lower score.

Golf swing weight training shouldn’t be new to you. You’ve heard all the pros train for their game. So why shouldn’t you? Here’s one secret that can add a quick 20 yards to your driver in less than a week or so.

Swing a weighted club!

This is not revelating stuff, but I’m here to tell you it’s one of the quickest and most effective ways to increase your distances with all clubs.

The benefit is developing the exact golf swing muscles from a strength and flexibility standpoint within your golf swing. You’ll improve your backswing and follow through range of motion, as well as your power through the hitting zone.

In all my dvds, books and websites I preach the importance of a balanced routine of both golf stretching and strengthening exercises for all your golfing muscles. This is critical for your long term success.

I am an advocate of this approach, and strongly suggest you be too. There are many muscles swing the weighted club don’t hit that can be affecting your game. Like the hamstrings, lower back and even abs.

But, how about a little shortcut along the way?

Golf swing weight training is something I’ve personally been doing for over 10 years and I’m fortunate enough to say I can consistently drive the ball over 300 yards. I don’t say that to brag, but to say this type of training and approach is effective and works!

Because I’m not a big guy like all those long drive competitors, golfers are surprised when they see me hit a drive. They all seem to ask how can I do that? Immediately I go into my golf trainer mode and precede to tell them the importance golf swing weight training and working on the “machine” to hit longer drives.

Within a couple of holes they are hitting me with a ton of questions they want answered. By the time I’m done, I wished I hadn’t told them what I do for a living.

No I’m just kidding.

By doing a golf swing weight training program that incorporates strength, flexibility and weighted clubs you will see the quickest results that last long term.

Your golfing buddies might think your crazy, but you’ll get the last laugh.

The winning combination is swing technique and golf swing weight training!

Many experts would agree that most golfers take their swing too seriously. Learn the basics, practice a lot and stay out of your own way!

Here are the basic steps for a full and perfect golf swing:

1. Grip the club with your left hand so that your thumb lies along the shaft. The line between your thumb and index finger should point toward your right eye. Wrap your right hand over your left so that your left thumb fits into the cup of the right palm. If you are left-handed, reverse these instructions.

2. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart with your right foot pointing straight ahead and your left foot slightly to the left. Bend at your hips, keeping your back straight and your knees flexed. Distribute your weight evenly from front to back and left to right.

3. For the backswing, shift your weight to your right foot. At the same time, tilt your shoulders vertically so that your left shoulder points down, and right shoulder points up. The left end of the club will be pointing approximately at or behind the ball. As you’re shifting your weight to your right foot, release to the instep of your left foot so you can get behind the ball. Ensure that your right foot, right hip and head are in a vertical line. Begin your backswing with your hands, followed immediately by your arms and shoulders. Don’t hurry. This won’t create a faster downswing. Keep your pace steady throughout your backswing. If you aren’t happy with your golf swing, this is one of the first corrections to try. Slow down your backswing.

4. For the downswing and impact, start with your hips. Shift your weight to your left foot by leading with your hips in a slight lateral motion. Point the club end in your right elbow down at your right foot. At the same time, shift to the instep of your right foot so that most of your weight is on your left foot. Release your hips by rotating them through, so that your hips, belly button, and shoulders are facing the target. Your right toe is just balancing you, not supporting any weight. Hold the finish position. Look down the target line, not down at the ground.

Many golf professionals say that eighty percent of the perfect golf swing is the body pivot. This involves three main components:

the turning of the body back, down and through

the correct weight shift throughout the swing

balance

Any loss of balance throughout the golf swing means that there is a pivot and weight shift problem. That will be reflected in the direction, loft and speed of the ball. Review these steps until you are comfortable and then keep practicing. The perfect golf swing is within your reach!

=================================

Richard Myers provides the avid golfer with video instruction to improve his or her golf swing. If the perfect golf swing and golf grip elude you, you need the proper golf swing trainer.

1) Practice your putting. How many strokes do you add in the course of your game because of three putts or easy short putts you have missed? If you’re like most golfers, the answer is too many even if it is one or two strokes each game. There are tons of products available to help your putting, from complete putting greens to ball return systems if you are using the living room carpet. Even if you are using your carpet, the key to practice enough to keep your putting form. You can always adjust to the speed of real greens when the season rolls around.

2) Setup a driving net in your garage. Just swinging the club each week can help keep you in shape for striking the ball. The worry here is that you may pick up some bad habits and not realize it because you aren’t seeing where the ball is going. You should take this into consideration but as long as you are thinking about what you are doing, you should be okay. Just be sure to be careful or get a decent product you can use to safely do this. Getting hit in the head with a ball won’t help your game much.

3) Take a trip south for relaxation and golfing. You might as well enjoy keeping your golf form so head down south during the middle of the winter to make sure your practicing is paying off. This may even score you some points with your spouse for when you want to head out every weekend next summer.

4) Find an indoor driving range. Obviously, the benefits of this are straight forward. If you can get to the range regularly over the winter, you can see how your drives, long irons, and short game are all doing based on your practice in the garage.

5) Watch as much golf as you can. Sometimes you need to the see the game to be the game. If you pay close attention to how the pros hit the ball, it eventually will sink in to your head and you can attempt to mimic this on the range. It will all come together when you start next season.

If take the time this winter to try these 5 tips, you will most certainly be ready for the links for the 2006 season. Even if you don’t have the opportunity to go south for a golf trip, start now to keep your game in top form and get excited about shooting your best score next year.

Every golfer has dozens of them gathering dust in their garages or closets. How many wives have threatened a “clearing out” of these contraptions? If you are feeling mekeep reading.

Have you purchased golf swing aids only to use them once or twice and not see improvement? Isn’t this an everyday occurrence for golfers? I see and hear this all the time, and yet golfers will continue to spend hundreds of dollars by the ‘latest/greatest’ gimmick.

I don’t know if they (golfers) think they will find the “one” training aid that will change their game forever; or they are just trying to take the easy way out?

Either way, the main reason most golf swing aids don’t help is because you are not working on what’s causing your swing faults. You! Your machine (body) dictates your outcome! There’s no way around it!

What your body is capable of in that moment is the result you’ll get.

How many times have you wished you could make a bigger backswing but can’t? How often do you walk off the course with a sore back? How many times did you have a good front nine only to blow up on the back nine and shoot your normal score?

The above results were because of the “physical” issues within your body. Until you realize this and take a different approach to your golf improvement program, you’ll be a frustrated golfer for a long time.

In my opinion, there are a couple of golf swing aids that are effective when you incorporate them with your new golf training program. One is the medicus. This is a fantastic golf swing aid that gives you instant feedback. Swing it too fast or out of plane and the shaft breaks at the hinge.

Another golf swing aid I like is the weighted golf club. I swing mine everyday and boy does it loosen me up and strengthen my golf swing muscles.

Other than the above golf swing aids, there are dozens and dozens of ones that are a total waste of money. Save your money and work on you! The sooner you do, the sooner you’ll stop buying the latest, greatest golf swing aids.

Howsoever insignificant it may seem, the weekend golfer needs to remember that some sort of strategy has to be employed while playing golf. Some of these observations, inspections and reactions should become automatic with time but for a beginner they require some effort and conscious planning.

On the tee, you have the option of teeing your ball anywhere between, but not forward of, the markers. Don’t forget that you can tee it a maximum of two club-lengths behind the line of the markers. Look around before teeing as almost every hole has more trouble on one side of the fairway than on the other. This trouble may be obvious, subtle or hidden.

Whatever the golf hole’s trouble may be, make it a rule to tee up your ball on the same side of the teeing ground as the trouble lies and shoot away from it. This way, you will at least start your shot away from the danger zone. This will help ensure that the ball does not land deep into the trouble even if you slice badly from the correct side. Chances are that you might hit the ball across the fairway and into the rough on the opposite side, but then you have been caught by the lesser of the two evils, and the advantage is still yours.

Take advantage of any unevenness of the ground, if there is any to be taken. Often there are little depressions on a tee. If there are in the area you choose, tee your ball on the forward edge of one to get a slightly uphill lie, which is an easier position to play from. Check and remove any obstructions behind the ball, such as broken tees, which could deflect the club as it is brought back. In addition, the movement of loose, dead grass may distract you.

Make sure that your feet are on level ground and that there is nothing under them to bother you, like a stick or a small stone or a clod of mud. Be sure that your feet aren’t resting on muddy ground or loose earth on which they might slip.

Most short (par 3) holes are played with an iron. When you play them, use a wooden tee. This is the only chance you ever get for a perfect lie for an iron, and you should take advantage of it. Keep in mind though that a higher tee will take distance off the shot.

One of the great and variable hazards of golf is the wind and needs to be handled to one’s advantage as even a slight breeze can cut off a considerable distance from your shot. When playing against the wind, the ball should be kept as low as possible, so as to minimize the effect of the wind. To keep the ball low, play it back farther than normal, toward the center line and between the feet, if it is the tee shot, or back farther for a pitching iron. Keep more weight on the left leg than normal, and try to have your hands ahead of the ball at impact. It is also advisable when taking shots against the wind to use one club stronger than you would use in still air, grip it shorter, and use a shorter, but firmer swing.

When the wind is behind you, you should get the ball up so the movement of air can exert a greater and longer effect. Most of these alterations should be reversed when the wind is with you. Use normal weight movement and hand action, however, since fooling with them is too dangerous.

Playing in a crosswind from the tee, the ball should be played from the same side the wind is blowing from and played for the windward side of the fairway. This way, you are letting the wind help the ball just a little, instead of fighting it, as you would be if you started the ball even slightly against it. You will face some conflict if there’s trouble on one side of the fairway, and the wind is coming from the other. When you find yourself in this dilemma, let the trouble be the determining factor.

The simple thing to remember is that every round of golf has its own challenges and obstacles that you will face. By learning to adjust your game, even if ever so slightly, you will help put yourself in a better position to hit better shots and score lower despite the conditions.

If you want to learn how to play golf the right way, the way the pros do then you need to start thinking along the lines of golf school. Practicing is not gong to make you a great golfer all it is gong to do is ingrain all of the bad habits that you have already picked up. Going to golf school on the other hand is gong to teach you everything that you need to know in order to master the game of golf. Golf is a game of skill and a game of patience and if you want to be able to beat everyone who steps out onto those links then you need to go to golf school and learn from the best.

Why golf school you ask? Why not one on one time with a pro? Well, first of all because not every one of us can afford to purchase this pro time. It can get awfully costly to buy one on one lessons all of the time. Golf school is an affordable way to learn the same things that you would the other way. At golf school you will learn all kinds of tips and tricks to help your golf game. You will learn about the clubs about your swing and much, much more. And most importantly you will learn the right way. At golf school you will still have a professional there to show you just what you are doing wrong and to help you learn how to correct it.

At golf school you will be in a class, a small class containing only a few other students. There will still be plenty of time for you to get the attention that you need to improve your golf game. And let me tell you, golf school is loads of fun. You will get to learn and you will get to play, it is a blast.

In most cases you will attend the golf school in the morning and then be given some time out on the links later in the day. This gives you some time to absorb what you have learned and then put it into practice. This is the most effective way to learn and that is what golf school is all about: teaching you the right way to play golf once and for all. So if you feel your golf fame could use a little pick me up then check out golf school, you will be glad that you did.

They provide people who are interested in the sport an opportunity to learn it the right way. For a beginner who wants to start learning the sport, enrolling in a course in a golf school is a good start. In a golf school, the learner receives proper training, guidance and direction. The golf school will teach learners a broad understanding of all aspects of the game, focus on sound golfing principles and provide unique insights that allow learners to appreciate some ways of developing their skills. Learners certainly need to acquire a good knowledge base about the swing, how to make certain shots, how to use and apply the rules of golf and how to strategize in a game. The golf schools have incorporated all these essentials in the programs they offer.

Taking lessons from a qualified golf trainer expedites the learning process. Trainers are knowledgeable in all aspects of the game and able to identify each individual learner’s strengths and weaknesses. The common problem with many poor players is that they do not know how to execute some shots and tend to repeat the same faults over and over again. Qualified instructors from golf schools can offer sound instruction and help the learners to avoid the usual pitfalls. Besides teaching good golf techniques, the trainers also provide valuable feedback to learners on their performance. The trainers help to identify their mistakes and teach them how to correct them. As golf involves a wide range of skills, the learners need to know which specific areas they are weak in. They will then be able to focus on those areas that need the most attention and make improvement in those areas. Being aware of their weaknesses and strengths, they can keep a close track of their progress. A reliable source of feedback is important for the learners who seek to make progress. This in turn would greatly enhance the quality of their practice sessions and their enjoyment of the game. It is indeed beneficial to learn from a qualified professional. Learners should find a good golf school with qualified instructors and invest in a series of lessons in order to learn golf more effectively.

The golf school organizes programs which has a course structure with a clear set of objectives that offer direction and motivation. The course content covers all the aspects of golf the learner needs to know and the program allows the overall learning to be progressive. Each program consists of a fixed number of lessons in which all participants need to follow. The participants will learn according to the content set out in each lesson. As it is a structured learning program, there is little risk of missing anything out. The school creates an environment in which learners are motivated to improve their standards and performance levels.

As golf schools are aware that players now demand higher personal standards to satisfy their golfing goals, many of them have made available the use of up-to-date facilities and equipment to keep up with the advancing standards in golf teaching. If the surroundings do not contain the right learning facilities then the trainer’s role of identifying and setting out areas of improvement for the individual will be more limited and less effective. The teaching environment has to offer the maximum opportunity for progress and development.

In a golf school, the practice and amount of work and study can be rigorous. If you are interested to start taking lessons, it is good to get yourself prepared to undergo a period of intense practice. You will be required to hit a lot of balls in a short period. The schools’ sessions can run from one to seven days. As group size varies, you may need to check the school’s student-teacher ratio. It is a good idea that you choose a school that has a program which suits you. Nonetheless, you need to make a commitment to work hard. You should be ready to work with your trainer and alongside your peers in enhancing your own personal capabilities and building your competitive skills. In golf schools, there are players who make good progress in a fairly short time.

It is preferable that a beginner seek the help of a professional early, so that sound golf principles could be adopted in the early stage. That makes it easier for both the learner and the trainer. For those who are playing well and are not enrolled in any golf school, it is a good idea to begin lessons now and take the quality of the game to the next level. Golfers who seek to enhance their skills get greater satisfaction and pleasure from their game.

Everyone wants a firm midsection. For the golfer, it delivers much more than just a coveted physique. Stronger abdominal muscles convert to better balance and a more powerful swing. Your abs are part of a group of core muscles, which also includes the back and glutes. Strength in these muscles are vital to a golfer’s stability and power. Stronger core muscles can also prevent injuries to the hips and back.

The abs play an integral role in the core muscle group. Weaker abdominal muscles can place more work on the other core muscles, therefore reducing overall strength as well as open the door for possible injuries and strain. It’s important as you work to strengthen your abs that you try to exercise in a manner that will have some carry-over to your golf swing.

Regardless of your current fitness level, strength in the core muscle group should always be one of your top goals.

Here are some exercises to help strengthen your abs and better prepare you for your next round of golf.

Reverse Crunch

Instruction:

Lie on your back with your legs bent on top of a Swiss ball. Find an area of the ball you can grip well with your leg muscles.

Contract your abdominals and roll the ball up towards your chest

Lift your hips off the ground using your abdominal muscles

Target initially for 1-2 sets of 10-12 reps each.

Double Crunch

Instruction:

Lie on the floor face up.

Bend your knees until your legs are at a 45-degree angle with both feet on the floor.

Your back should be comfortably relaxed on the floor with your hands behind your head.

Contracting your abdominals, raise your head and legs off the floor toward one another.

Slowly return to the starting position stopping just short of your shoulders and feet touching the floor.

Keep your eyes on the ceiling to avoid pulling on your neck.

Your hands should not be used to lift the head or assist in the movement.

Target initially for 1-2 sets of 10-12 reps each.

Remember, a stronger core can result in a more predictable, powerful and consistent golf swing.
